<DIV align=left> The scale house belonging to the Norfolk and
Western at Vivian was practically destroyed by fire about 3 o'clock yesterday
morning. The loss as far as the house itself is
concerned amounts to but little, probably not beyond $100, which was fully
covered by insurance, but the scale records, which were very valuable to the
company, were greatly damaged. It is not known how the fire originated,
but it is supposed that the building caught from a passing engine.</DIV>

<DIV align=left> There was a rear end freight collision
yesterday at 9:30 near Devon on the main line of the Norfolk and Western, which
delayed traffic for two and a half hours. The caboose of one freight was
practically demolished, and the pilot of the engine of the other was knocked
off. No one was hurt. No. 2, eastbound passenger train, was two
hours and thirty minutes late arriving in Bluefield on account of the
wreck.</DIV>
