Is Practically Completed by the Virginian Railroad</STRONG>

<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> The first
coal to be loaded from the famous Winding Gulf section of Raleigh county
was shipped this week from the plant of the Gulf Smokeless Coal Company at
Gulf. There are six coal operations now located on the Gulf, and all will
shortly be in shape to begin shipping coal.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> The Virginian
Railway has completed nineteen miles of road on their branch which starts from
Mullins [<EM>sic</EM>], although ten miles of this trackage is without
ballast.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> Work on the
Winding Gulf side of the big lease of the E. E. White Coal Company was commenced
several weeks since, and excellent progress is being made.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> The report that
the Virginian was operating a daily train from Mullins up the branch is
erroneous, as they only run a mixed train, which makes three trips a week on a
very uncertain schedule.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> It is also
reported here that the Chesapeake and Ohio people have commenced work on their
branch road up Tommys Creek. This branch will tap a great coal territory,
which is also immensely wealthy in timber.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV align=left><FONT face="Times New Roman"> The Wm. Ritter
Company is making preparations to log the timber from the Winding Gulf
section. The greater portion of it will be brought to Fitzpatrick, where
the large band mill of that concern is located, at which place it will be sawed
into lumber.</FONT></DIV>
