A Dr. Moxley from the Galax / Independence area helped her with transportation since she had no car or drivers license and he had to come to Radford Hospital to see patients. He also assisted her in getting settled by helping her get a job in a boarding house on Grove Avenue near Radford College. One of Mom's tasks was to take the railroad men's watches to Brian Huddle Jewelry Shop, downtown, for inspection. As a side note, Mom also served boarder Dr. Moffett ( Moffett Hall, [named] after the beloved Dr. M’Lege Moffett, Dean of Women, who devoted 49 years of her life to Radford University. - from runet.edu/inauguration/inaugspeech.htm).
Further, the first house of recollection for me in Radford was on Third Street, West End, in a Lynchburg Foundry (known as the 'pipe shop' ) village of sorts. One of our next door neighbors was Mike Wilson, an N&W hogger! He moved and we moved......and I was too young to absorb any information although I remember him as a jolly person.
Charlie Long
Lynchburg, VA

-----Original Message-----
