Thompson's Motel was on the north side of US 460, west of the present<br>
day school.   It was a favorite haunt of H. Reid.  He also made<br>
recordings there.  Returning from Abingdon in August, 1955, H. Reid,<br>

Bill Gwaltney, and Jack Stith put up there.  The next morning we<br>
climbed the bank behind the motel and saw Eng 601 hauling No. 18<br>
out of the morning fog.<br>
