<div><STRONG> CONCORD DEPOT</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>"The Southside Railroad provided service at Concord in 1854</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>when the track was completed from Petersburg to Lynchburg.</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>During the Civil War, these rail lines were important for troops and</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>supplies. On 11 June (no year stated), seven days before the </STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>Battle of Lynchburg, Union army forces were dispatched from</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>Brig.General Willard Averell's Second Calvary Division to</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>destroy rail and telegraph lines in the region. On 14 June</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>(again, no year mentioned), the Federals burned Concord</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>Depot, a train, a portion of the track and other railroad</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>structures. They then marched toward Rustburg."</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG></STRONG> </div>
<div><STRONG>And remember, in the 1860's, the main line Phoebe to</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>to Lynchburg through Concord (Six-Mile, etc.) was THE (one and</STRONG></div>
<div><STRONG>only) </STRONG> <STRONG>route.</STRONG></div>
