Drawing and photo packages were also put together for the PA 4-6-2 pacifics at the same time. Jack was very enthusiastic about producing?the entire VGN passenger train. ?He and I disagreed regarding which PA versions to offer. He wanted to offer the #212 with slant cab and the #210 with the originial box car. I wanted the #212 and the #213 both with slant cabs and without the oil/water separator ahead of the stack. My reasoning was that #212 was the only PA with a standard stoker and a unique tender fill funnel. Also the ugly oil/water separator that was applied to?some of the PA's could be included separately in the parts package for those who like ugly things . Now It appears to be a moot point since DP has cancelled both the cars and engines. I have asked that the drawing packages be returned and we will seek another importer for the project. I am now working up a package for the original N&W RS3s for DP. DP wants to add the N&W RS3s to their currect run of these ALCO diesels. A drawing package for the N&W RS11s will be worked up for DPs later run of RS11s.? The RPO was a "test" for the builder (a 1-1/2 person shop) who had not done any passenger cars before. In order to keep the builder from having to up-scale staff, and to give the end customers a break in this economy, cars will be produced a 3-month intervals. Up next is the baggage car and the business cars. BTW, the #101 business car in Tuscan has been added. If anyone still needs RPO's, I know where they are available, email me. It is nice to know someone appreciates it. I also specifically laid the book out so that it would not have a portion fall in the gutter so that if someone wanted to copy and put the pieces together, they would not lose information as happens so many times. Shaffers is a huge complex and I'd love to see a model of it. The drawing in the book actually was part of a larger section, probably another foot or two on each end. It was part of a presentation C.E. Pond, GM of Motive Power presented to the Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association about 1949. There is also a drawing of Williamson in the paper. I do not recall directly, but I think there was also a drawing of Winston-Salem, NC as an example of a smaller locomotive terminal.
