Hello everybody,
You might want to check out the following article about two related projects
on knowledge databases:
http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,38745,00.html
The unique thing about these first two projects is that they gather consensus
knowledge in natural language format from users over the Internet and then try
to make sense of it using statistical validation.
There is another company, however, called Cyc, that is building a database
using a much more formal approach similar to what we have been talking about.
Their web site is at:
http://www.cyc.com
Their approach is to use a group of expert knowledge engineers to make a LISP
based knowledge database with a global synthetic name space for all concepts,
relations, and predicates. The core database they have online (registration
required) is a very good example of the type of knowledge we eventually need
to model and process.
