RICHARD SMITH Richard Smith suffered a heart attack after warming down from one of his races. Thanks to the quick work of Craig Dennis and Mellissa Wong, they were able to revive Richard, whose heart had stopped. They lost his pulse and breathing. And, "Get me off of this thing!" (stretcher), and "Why should I care who the President is!" Dick had to go into surgery because the wire that was implanted dug a hole in the heart. They found this by xray so they immediately took him to major surgery to patch the hole and transplant the wire in a different place. They told his wife that it may be 1-2 weeks before he gets home. They will take him out of CCU when he is well enough. Richard has been a stalwart of Pacific Masters Swimming and our best wishes for a speedy recovery go out to him and his wife Joan. If there are any clubs that will have open practice where swimmers can workout in a long course pool, write me at mailto:michael@pacificmasters.org I will post the information in the Update or on the web site. After the Long course meet last weekend, I was talking to a swimmer who for the first time swam a long course event. He said he did not have any feeling for the length of the pool. He did not know where he was and even though he always counts his strokes, he had no sense of where he was or where he should be. Working out in a long course pool will help swimmers for the long course season and for the world championships. ==== XI FINA WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS The XI FINA World Masters Championships on-line Meet entry system is now available.
