All club and individual registrations expire on 31 December. From 1 November, clubs and individuals can register for 2007. The individual membership is $35 / year, the same as 2006 and includes a subscription to USMS Swimmer Magazine, the Pacific Masters newsletter. Membership also includes a secondary accident insurance policy, borrowing privileges from the video library and the privilege of participating in any of our pool and open water events. Bernice was a long time member of the Rinconada Swim Club, where she made many friends. She enjoyed competing in the backstroke event. Bernice was know for her grace generosity and sense of fairness. She was born in Los Angles, graduated from UCLA and earned a Masters in Social Work from UC Berkeley. She met her husband in 1942. Services will be held 27 January. Shie is doing very well with no detectable cancer. She was able to swim at Worlds this summer and is now trying to get back into shape to swim at Nationals. She would like to get a group of people together that are swimmers that have had chest surgery or injuries so that we can share some insights of what helps. Participants must swim 40 miles cumulatively in the three months of winter in order to achieve the goal, with no wetsuit nor swim aids. This year, there were two remarkable accomplishments: 1) Ralph Wenzel swam 356 miles, tying the record of George Kebbe from 2003. He opted not to surpass it out of affection and respect for George. That was 4 miles a day for 90 days on average, and; 2 Pete Perez was first to reach 40 in only 4 days! He swam 1/2 mile at a time, 20 times a day,warming up in between swims. On Friday, they will be on 3 PM on Friday. The swimming is being contested at the Rod Laver Auditorium in Melbourne. The pool is deep and fast. To be there and watch the swimmers compete was an awesome experience. But if you cannot be sitting at the finish line 12 rows up, TV is a great way to see the events. COACHES MEETING / TEAM LEADERSHIP MEETING There will be a coaches meeting / Team leadership meeting on May 5th. Tom Boyd, and Jim Wheeler are the featured speakers. Tom Boyd did a survey of Masters swimmers last year. He will be discussion the results and what it means for coaches. Jim Wheeler will be speaking on getting along with the pool management.
