I would swim it except I had a heart attack three years ago. BEING BORED IN A HOSPITAL EXAM ROOM Last Friday I had a scheduled exam. I had not eaten anything in 36 hours. I was hooked up to an EKG and was waiting in an exam room. I looked at the heart monitor and noticed that if the heart rate went below 50, it would set off the alarm. hmmmmm I wonder if I could relax and set the alarm off by getting the heart rate down a couple of beats. 51 50 49 48 alarm goes off - no one comes in just relax and heart rate at 48 - 49. alarms keeps ringing. After a couple of minutes a nurse comes in. I tell her that the alarm should be set a little lower. I swim a lot and have a low heart rate. (we then spoke about swimming - tried to get her interested in Masters Swimming.) Ah the things we do when we are bored. -- michael w. moore michael at mwmoore.org -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I spoke with her husband Bill last night. Barbara had a cough during most of the summer and had been seeing a doctor about it. At the beginning of last week it turned worse and she had problems breathing. She was scheduled for test on Tuesday afternoon. Monday it had gone so bad that she was admitted to the ICU. Tuesday morning, her husband said that she had a spell and she could not be revived. Besides sitting on the USMS Finance Committee, she was very active in Pacific as she was the Vice President of Administration. She was also the Treasurer of the XI FINA World Masters Championships. When the FINA LOC had an idea to have a relay day, Barbara went to work on the schedule to do a proof of concept. There were many hours spent trying to guess how many swimmers would swim and which events they would swim in. The LOC was able to demonstrate to the FINA Masters Committee that a relay day could be done. She leaves behind her husband William and son Will. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Wilson & Kratzer, Chapel of San Ramon Valley, 825 Hartz Way, Danville, CA 94526 (925) 820-2999. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Deerfield Academy, Mr. Tom Henry, 7 Boyden Lane, Deerfield, MA 01342. Thanks for all the support for this year's MVM Alan Liu Meet. We had something like 93 swimmers in attendance, and 322 total races swum. Jill Mason and her brother Dan dropped in for the first half of the meet, and she got to reacquaint herself with John Morales, who fitted her with her first back brace shortly after her injury. She doesn't remember much from those dark days, but John remembers her, and it was great fun to see them meet again. Rita Wells and Barry Liu, Alan's parents also came by, and it was great to see them. As for the records, well, there were a bunch. I'll be bringing some paperwork up to Wednesday's meeting.
