There was great competition, great races and great comradery. Pacific Swimmers who did very well include Suzanne Heim-Bowen (five golds and a bronze), Laura Val (seven gold - five individual- two relay), Bobbi Callison (4 golds and silver), Ken Frost (five golds - three individual- two relay), Rich Burns (four gold, two individual, two relay), Norm Stupfel took a bronze, John Engs a gold, John Morales - a bronze. There were also great results from other Pacific Masters Swimmers. Congrats to all who took part. Congratulation to Laura Val and Roque Santos who both received six gold medals and Robert Strand and Gloria Stupfel who won five gold meals. 2008 RANSOM ARTHUR AWARD GOES TO BARRY FASBENDER Barry Fasbender of Palo Alto, California, was presented with USMS's most prestigious award at the USMS Short Course National Championships at the University of Texas, Saturday, May 3rd. This award, which is given in the memory of Ransom J. Arthur, the founder of Masters swimming, is presented annually to the person who has contributed greatly to the development of Masters swimming. http://www.usms.org/features.php?id=56 DEAN DILLINGHAM, RIP Dean Dillingham passed away last week at the age of 81 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dean and his wife Jacqui worked at many many Masters meets over many years, including USMS and Pacific Masters championships. Their last meet they worked was the XI FINA World Masters Championships. A memorial service for Dean will be held Thursday, May 8 at 11am at St John's Lutheran Church, Tregallas Road Antioch. Date: Mon, 2 Jun 2008 21:49:11 -0700 Subject: [PacMasterUpdate] The Update 2 June 2008 Message-ID: DORE SCHWAB, JR, 1922-2008 Dore Schwab, Jr, past chairman of Pacific Masters Swimming, passed away 1 June 2008. Dore went to UCLA where he was on the swimming team and the water polo team. Dore joined USMS in March 1972. It was Dore, Ray and Zada Taft, Carol MacPherson and Cindy Baxter that started Pacific Masters Swimming. He was a USMS Top Ten swimmer. Dore was a member of Tamalpias Masters from March 1972. He servers as President of Tamalpias Masters, Chairman of Pacific Masters, Marketing Chairman of USMS Masters. He also worked as a meet official in his later years. Dore was the USMS Zone Chair in 1985 -86. He was a recipient of the Dorothy Donally Award. Dore contributed to the Newsletter by writing poetry - Pacific has one of the few newsletters that has had poetry in it. When I first met Dore, he was the chairman of Pacific Masters. He was always very courtly and a gentleman to all who conducted the meeting. He also ran a meeting that allowed everyone to give their report and kept them people on track. Dore suffered a stroke a few years ago and had been living in an assisted living facility.
