<div><b>DORE SCHWAB, JR, 1922-2008</b></div>
<div>Dore Schwab, Jr, past chairman of Pacific Masters Swimming,
passed away 1 June 2008. Dore went to UCLA where he was on the
swimming team and the water polo team.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Dore joined USMS in March 1972. It was Dore, Ray and Zada Taft,
Carol MacPherson and Cindy Baxter that started Pacific Masters
Swimming.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>He was a USMS Top Ten swimmer. Dore was a member of Tamalpias
Masters from March 1972. He servers as President of Tamalpias Masters,
Chairman of Pacific Masters, Marketing Chairman of USMS Masters. He
also worked as a meet official in his later years. Dore was the USMS
Zone Chair in 1985 -86. He was a recipient of the Dorothy Donally
Award.</div>

<div>Dore contributed to the Newsletter by writing poetry - Pacific
has one of the few newsletters that has had poetry in it.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>When I first met Dore, he was the chairman of Pacific Masters. He
was always very courtly and a gentleman to all who conducted the
meeting. He also ran a meeting that allowed everyone to give their
report and kept them people on track.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Dore suffered a stroke a few years ago and had been living in an
assisted living facility.</div>

<div><b>UNITED STATES MASTERS SWIMMING CONVENTION</b></div>
<div>The 2008 US Masters Swimming Convention will be held in Atlanta
,Georgia, September 24th through 28th. Delegates are expected to
attend the House of Delegates meetings and at least two committee
meeting This year is a "rules" year. Rule of Swimming and
Long Distance Swimming are the main items for consideration. This is
also the year for voting on members for the Board of Directors. There

<div><b>LAKE BERRYESSA OPEN WATER</b></div>
<div>The Lake Berryessa Open Water Swim two and One Mile Swims will be
on Saturday June 7. This is one of the biggest open water meets in the
United States. You can pre-register until 23 May.</div>

<div>Biggest swim of the year. You will run into people you know
from your past swimming life. Water temp is comfortable.
Get there early or you'll have a long walk from the parking lots.
Bring a chair because the grass is dead and full of foxtails and there
is nowhere to sit. Plan to be there for a long time. You
can pre-order a lunchŠor bring your own food.</div>

<div><b>CALIFORNIA STATE SENIOR GAMES</b></div>
<div>The state Senior Game Championships will be held in Pasadena on 8
June. To compete in the National Championships that will be held at
Stanford next year, one has to qualify at a state championship. For

<div><b>DICK BENNETT LONG COURSE MEET</b></div>
<div>Menlo Masters is organizing the Dick Bennett Long Course Meet to
be held at the Sacred Heart Long Course Pool in Atherton. The meet
will be on 14 June.</div>

LAKE OPEN WATER</b></div>
<div>A new open water event, the Millerton Lake Open Water Swim will
be on 15 June. Millerton Lake is just outside of Fresno and will be
the site of the 2009 One Mile Open Water National championship.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>Lake Mendocino 2 Mile Pacific Masters
Championships</b></font></div>
<div>Since it's a championship swim, awards are given to 5th place.
A new venue but it will be put on by the same people who host the
Spring Lake and Russian River swims. They tell us that the drive
is only 20 minutes longer than the drive to Lake Sonoma. Likely
to have post event food.</div>

<div>Blythe Lucero of Berkey Aquatic Masters wrote "The 100 Best
Swmming Drills". In the 100 Best Swimming Drilsl, Blythe has
compliledd the most effective swimming drills observed during two
decades of working with swimmers.</div>

ONLINE REGISTRATION</b><br>
If you have not registered for Pacific Masters, you can register

line. It is quick and easy and you can do it in the privacy of

home. To compete you must be a current member of United States<br>
Masters Swimming, if you go to a meet to register and compete, you<br>
will just stand in line longer. By registering now you will get

<div><b>5K and 10K Long Distance Postal National
Championships</b></div>
<div>The 5 K and 10 K Postal is swum between 15 May and 15
September. This is a great way to swim a national championships at a
local pool. You must swim the event in a 50 meter pool. Further

PACIFIC MASTERS 2008 SCHEDULE</b></div>

Currently 35 events are planned for the next year. Included in the<br>
schedule are short course yards, long course meters, short course<br>

<div>Thanks to all who submitted their nominee for the coach of the
year. There are eight coaches who have been nominated for the 2008
Coach of the Year. The committee is reviewing all the nominations and
the result will be announced at the 2008 Pacific Masters Long Course
Championships.</div>
