STATEMENT:</b></font></div>
<div>As adopted by the Pacific Masters Committee the Mission of
Pacific Masters is:</div>

<div><b>Pacific Masters Swimming welcomes anyone who would like to
gain and maintain fitness through swimming and encourages programs to
foster this mission.</b></div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>Lake Del Valle</b></font></div>
<div>The Lake Del Valle1.5 mile will be a national championship meet
next year. This year's meet will be a great time to practice for next
year. The meet is 31 May and there is race day registration.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>LAKE BERRYESSA</b></font></div>
<div>The Lake Berryessa swim will be held June 6th. This is one
of the most popular swims in the United States with about 1,000
Masters swimmers competing in the fresh water of Lake Berryessa. There
is the two mile swim and the one mile swim for Masters Swimmers.</div>

<div>You can preregister on-line until 7pm 1 June. Late registration
is possible with a payment of a late fee.</div>

<div>The Tiberon Mile has had a date change. The swim will be held on
13 September.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>OPEN WATER CHAMPIONSHIPS</b></font></div>
<div>The 2009 PMS Open Water championship will take place at the Santa
Cruz Roughwater Pier Swim, August 2, 2009. Lake Mendocino is not the
championship swim this year as indicated in Swimmer Magazine.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>FACEBOOK</b></font></div>
<div>After the last Pacific Masters Committee meeting, Carolyn Lambert
has started a FACEBOOK Page for members of the Pacific Masters
Swimming Community. Anyone can join Facebook, then you can search for
Pacific Masters to join the Pacific Masters network. There are also
many Pacific Masters Clubs who have also established a Facebook
group..</div>

<div>May 15th was the opening of the 5K and 10K Meters Postal event.
If you swim the five or ten K swim you can submit your times and be
entered in the event.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>OPEN WATER 101</b></font>- Moved to Lake Del
Valle</div>
<div>Want to learn about open water swimming, but not sure how to
start? Concerned about cold water, crowded starts, open water culture,
Pacific Masters is sponsoring Open Water 101 a clinic for new and
developing open water swimmers. It will cover Breathing and sighting,
coping with panic, pack swimming, water entry and exit and mental
Preparation.</div>

<div>There will be dry land talks by Suzanne Heim-Bowen and Suzie Dods
as well as other local, national and international open water
swimmers. The location has been moved to Lake Del Valle. There is a
limit of 50 swimmers so register early:</div>

<div>Tell your triathlete friends they can take the course, but you
must be a member of US Masters Swimming to attend the class.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>BIDDING FOR NATIONAL POOL
CHAMPIONSHIPS</b></font></div>
<div>You can create an exciting opportunity for your club by bidding
to host either the 2011 United States Masters Swimming National Short
or Long Course Championships. The USMS Championship Committee to
strongly encourage you to work with facilities within your LMSC to
consider bidding for either of these showcase events. All entries are
now processed by USMS, which takes away much tedious work from the
host. The short course meet (25 yards or meters) typically takes place
mid-May, however, it may be held anytime between April 15th and May
31st in accordance with USMS rules. The long course meet typically
takes place mid-August although its allowable range is August 1 -
September 15th.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>BIDDING FOR NATIONAL OPEN WATER
CHAMPIONSHIPS</b></font></div>
<div>The Long Distance Open Water Committee is soliciting bids for
postal events for 2011 and the Open Water events for 2011. The Postal
events are the One Hour Postal, the 3,000-6,000 yard postal and the
5,000 and 10,000 M postal Clubs are encourage to bid for those
events.</div>

<div>For the open water events, in 2011 it is the West region's turn
to host and organize the one mile Open water swim, the 1 Mile cable
and the 3-6 Mile swim. The national championships would be a great way
to get swimmers from all over the US to come to your swim.</div>
<div><br></div>
<div>Next year Lake Del Valle wil be the venue of the 1-3 Mile
national championship. This year Millerton Lake was the scene of the
one mile national championship.</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>UPDATING THE PACIFIC MASTERS MAIL
LIST</b></font></div>
<div>The Pacific Masters email list had almost 20,000 subscribers on
it. Since we are limited to 20,000 subscribers on the list, so
was is time to do a little pruning. I went back to the 2007, 2008 and
the current rosters and pulled all the email addresses from those
lists. All members on those lists were re-subscribed to the updated
list. (those who asked to be removed, were removed) . Anyone can

<div><font size="+1"><b>MARK GILL TO BECOME USMS DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS
OPERATIONS</b></font></div>
<div>Mark Gill will fulfill the position of Director of Business
Operations. Mark has been a business management professor at the
University of Louisville for the last five years. His official start
date is June 1. Mark will have an office in Sarasota once the
headquarters are open. He will manage the Member Services, and Club &
Coach Services business units. Mark has frequently been the meet
announcer at the Masters Championships and was one of the main
announcers at the FINA Worlds at Stanford. Welcome aboard, Mark!</div>

<div><font size="+1"><b>US MASTERS SWIMMING LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
REGISTRATION OPENS</b></font></div>
<div>The complete meet information, paper entry form (PDF) and online
entry system are now available for the 2009 USMS Long Course National
Championships to be held in Indianapolis August 6-10. The Long Course
Championships will feature a relay day on Saturday, August 8, where
all the long course relays will be contested.</div>

RELEASE ON SWIMMING SUITS</b></font></div>
<div>Dear USMS Membership,<br>

The Executive Committee met this week and discussed the recent FINA
news release. USMS does abide by FINA policies however we recognize
that there is much confusion with interpreting and applying the FINA
release. In response and until further suit policy clarification is
provided by FINA, USMS Board President Rob Copeland issued the
following statement. Additionally, the USMS Rules Committee will be
meeting on May 31st as they monitor the situation, any new information
made available, and the implications it could have on USMS sanctioned
events.<br>

At this point in time no suits should be listed as banned by U.S.
Masters Swimming for pool or open water swimming.</div>
<div><br>
While FINA has listed the 202 approved swimsuits, FINA has NOT listed
the 10 suits that have been "rejected for not passing the tests of
buoyancy and/or thickness" or made a ruling on the "136 swimsuits
to be modified in accordance with "Dubai Charter"." Until
FINA provides the definitive list of banned swimsuits and specific
actions on the 136, we should not report any suit as banned in a USMS
sanctioned event.<br>
<br>
If you hear anything from FINA in contradiction to this statement,
please inform me as soon as possible. The list of FINA approved suits
