WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (October 29, 2004) –– San
Francisco-based comedienne Karen Ripley will present
an evening of spontaneous, world-altering comedy at
Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre on Friday,
November 12, 2004 at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by Monmouth
University’s All Lifestyles Included, all donations
collected at this event will benefit The Pride Center
of New Jersey.
Ripley has been performing stand-up comedy for two
decades and offers impeccable timing and deadpan
delivery. Spontaneity is a large part of her
performance, and Ripley’s more serious material is
based upon her own experience with substance abuse and
sobriety. If you ask why she performs gay and lesbian
humor, it’s “because I don’t want my career to go
anywhere…I decided to do gay and lesbian comedy
because I don’t ever want to be rich and famous, and
it’s working.” However, “queer humor may change the
world, and that’s really what it’s all about.”
The San Francisco Chronicle writes, “Ripley
crystallized the evening…She tore up the crowd with
one-liners.”
Ripley has been teaching improvisation to children and
adults for 20 years, and she has been the in-house
Improv teacher for Harvey Milk Institute, San
Francisco, CA, for the past seven years.

3. DOM PARTNERSHIP PERSPECTIVES - Nov 12
LGBT Caucus offers legal perspectives presentation on
Domestic Partnership registration in New Jersey
With the advent of legal same-sex domestic
partnerships in New Jersey, many questions have arisen
for same-sex couples that live or work in New Jersey.
Couples wonder what new rights and new
responsibilities come with registration as a domestic
partner. Couples have questions about the process of
registration, the impact on public and private
employees, the impact on real estate, property,
inheritance, retirement, child custody, medical
decisions, employer benefits, pensions, and other
financial and domestic arrangements.
To assist in answering these and other questions, the
NJEA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Caucus
will feature Family Law Attorney Marianna C.
Pontoriero at their Friday, November 12, 2004 meeting.
The meeting will commence at 7:30 PM at the
Burlington County Education Association office in
Willingboro, New Jersey. All interested persons,
inside and outside of public education, are invited to
attend. To register call or e-mail Carol Watchler at
609-448-5215 or njealgbc at comcast.net.

6. ANNUAL BRUNCH - Nov 21
The Pride Center Annual Awards Brunch
Each year, the Pride Center of New Jersey, hosts an
elegant brunch to honor their most prominent donors
and volunteers. It’s their way of saying “Thank you”
and recognizing them for all their efforts during the
past year. The Pride Center wants to acknowledge
their invaluable contributions to the Center in the
form of a celebration.
This year, our annual brunch is to be held at the
beautiful private home of Janet Green in the gorgeous,
rolling hills of Tewksbury, New Jersey. Come
experience a wonderful afternoon surrounded by the
Pride Center’s most distinguished members of our
community and enjoy a fabulous, scrumptious brunch
catered by Baker’s Treat of Flemington, New Jersey.
Baker’s Treat donates 100% of their profits to
programs for women in early recovery from alcohol and
drug addiction, so your attendance will be supporting
two great causes at the same time!
A jazz quartet will compliment the afternoon and add
serenity to the event while you gaze through the huge
glass doors, past the enormous deck and inspect the
wooded scenery and in the distance, Princeton, New
Jersey, while sipping your mimosa…
This will not be an event to miss! The cost is $30
for members, $40.00 for non-members. Please make your
