Hi guys,
In answer to DeltaNicks rendition of the "Robert Johnson story".
Acording to his long time companion Johnny Shines and other old guys who
knew him, he didn't play Gibson guitars on the recordings, or whilst
playing live, reputedly his preference was for Kalamazoo and Stella
guitars, the Gibsons were too expensive for most of the "bluesmen" of the
time (Great depression etc etc).
In an interview with Shines and Robert Johnsons sister, It was said that
the guitars used in the "Photo booth" shot and the "studio portrait" were
borrowed, as was the suit that he wore in the "studio shot" (borrowed from
his Nephew, who was about to leave to join the Navy).
Hope this adds to the previous "good stuff" from DeltaNick.
Regards,
Gerry Fahy
