[Slowhand] It's the equipment folks...

Let me throw my 2 cents in on DeltaNick et al arguments... My opinion is
that yes, all the things that have been said before:

1. EC focused more on singing
2. Doesn't care to play as much as he used to
3. Isn't too up in arms about being a guitar god

However another overlooked thing is that plain and simple, eric's guitar
(strat) doesn't show off his playing properly. Listen to the the Portland
2001 boot.. all gibson electric playing, ES--335 and Les paul for the last
few numbers before Rainbow.. Immensely different playing, his style is
pretty much the same, but the equipment flatters EC more than any other
artist.. I mean.. jeff beck pretty much sounds the same wheter or not he's
playing a tele or strat... clapton however, sounds miles different on strat
vs any gibson guitar...

the mayall 70th cd speaks to his lifeless playing, he likes others to take
front seat while he merely is a sideman.. the mayall 70th could have been a
watershed mark for latter day EC, but... YAAAAWN..

DN good point about crossroads, i very often skip this song on any show post
70... It's become a shuffle rather than a blazing song.

I am not optimistic about billy preston's involvement in both of EC's
albums.. this means the stark, scary R.Johnson songs, will have the climie
production stamp- gloss, lots of pianos and organs and other guitarists and
a sheen that will make it sound more like journeyman than the splinter
group...
