Allow me a bit of analytic room here:

The 70's and early '80s are not exactly Clapton's best period. In fact, this
period coincides -- exactly -- with EC's most inebriated existence and,
arguably, his worst music.

So, the guitar with which Clapton was drunk the most fetched the most money.

"Wonderful Tonight" and "Cocaine."

Go figure.
