Maybe there is something deeper than that to which Delta Nick alludes.

Maybe the guitar that was played through all those years of drugs and booze, 
all EC's wasted years, is contributing the most to the cause that he is 
supporting. Maybe it's God's will that it wasn't such a waste after all and 
it can help countless others defeat addiction?

That was my interpretion and you can go figure or not, it's what I am 
sticking with.
