Thanks to everyone who emailed me an explanation to my question. Region codes - bummer! I suppose that it prevents one geograghic area from seeing a film not yet released to video and still in the theaters (ultimately, gets the film to video earlier), but it sure puts a snag in one's gift-giving options. Perhaps, Amazon has an option to solve my "problem." Thanks again, all (gotta love the internet).
