Poor old Clappers can't win. He plays the hits he cops criticism. He doesn't play the hits, same thing. I just hope he doesn't bother reading the press reviews of his shows. They would make him feel like tossing it all in. Then again maybe he just ignores that side of it and plays for his own and the band's enjoyment anyway. Just as it should be.
Pat mentioned this one:
<"Last night the blues were heard in Saint Paul. One local reviewer moaned over the fact that the mellower side of Eric was not seen, no "My fathers eyes" or "Tears in Heaven".">
And DeltaNick posted this one:

CONCERT REVIEW: ERIC CLAPTON AT THE UNITED CENTER
No doubt more than a few among the sold-out audience would have
gone home grumbling -- and not come back next tour -- had Clapton skipped
"Layla," "Wonderful Tonight," "Badge," "Cocaine" or his other signature
tunes in favor of a full evening of Johnson's music.">
And writer Jeff Johnson also includes this little gem:
<"It's a shame, though, that Clapton has no use for bandmates who could stoke his artistic fires. Gone for one is stylish jazz-rock guitarist Andy Fairweather Low, replaced by Texas axman Doyle Bramhall II, who's still a work in progress.">
I laughed at that. For years there has been criticism of Andy's contribution being too supportive, and now this guy is saying Doyle is too supportive and Andy was more stylish!
Reviewers! Good for a laugh anyway.
Cheers,
Jon
