With Clapton being such a talent & having made so
many recordings & appearances all of us probably know
many musicians who were influenced by his playing.
Besides the guitar sound there's phrases & other more
subtle things that are difficult to put to words. I
remember how the performance of Hendrix in 1967 at the
Monterey festival was the first time alot of people in
the U.S. heard of him. In the middle of all that
playing was the "Strangers in the Night" phrase that I
think Hendrix did because he had heard Clapton's "Blue
Moon" phrase.
Alot of musicians try too hard to sound like
somebody else & it weakens their talent. Here's a
guitar player who was influenced by Clapton in a good
way. He reads & contributes sometimes to this digest
but I think he's too modest to mention his CD here.
You can see inormation about Fabio Dwyer plays & check
out his "Downtown Street" CD at
http://www.fabiodwyer.com.br . When you hear the
subtle phrasing on "Blue Life" & on "Memories" you'll
be reminded of Clapton's sound from the 1990s.
I'm sure Eric knows he's touched alot of people
around the world with his music but I wonder if he
gets to hear many of the less well known people play.
It would be difficult for him to go somewhere to hear
musicians without changing the atmosphere somehow by
his being there.
