The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus DVD
available October 12th
In 1968, The Rolling Stones and some of the top
British rock acts of the day came together in London
to film what would become a legendary show The Rolling
Stones Rock and Roll Circus. On October 11th at 7:30
PM local time, fans across America can gather at 53
Regal Entertainment Group (REG, NYSE: RGC) theatres
across the country to relive this moment in rock
history in a One Night Only(TM) Big Screen ConcertSM
event, presented by Regal CineMediaSM (RCM)
entertainment services, ABKCO Records, AEG Live and
AEG TV. Advance tickets are available at select Regal
Cinemas, United Artists Theatres and Edwards Theatres*
box offices nationwide and online at
www.BigScreenConcerts.com for $12.50. Event day
tickets will also be available at box offices or
online for $15.00.
The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was
originally conceived as a BBC TV special. The show was
filmed before a live audience at Intertel VTR Services
Limited TV studios in North London in 1968 but it
never aired, remaining virtually unseen by the general
public. The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus
centers on the original line up of the "World's
Greatest Rock and Roll Band" - Mick Jagger, Keith
Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts
(with Nicky Hopkins and Rocky Dijon) - who serve as
both the show's hosts and featured attraction,
performing six Stones classics-to-be including
"Jumping Jack Flash," "Parachute Woman," "No
Expectations," "You Can't Always Get What You Want,"
"Sympathy For The Devil" and "Salt of The Earth."
The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus also
includes full length musical performances by some of
the biggest British bands of the era including The
Who, Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, Yoko
Ono, and The Dirty Mac - a group that was the first
musical context in which John Lennon performed before
an audience outside The Beatles. The Dirty Mac was
Eric Clapton (lead guitar), The Rolling Stones' own
Keith Richards (bass) and Mitch Mitchell of the Jimi
Hendrix Experience (drums) with Lennon on guitar and
vocals. A mirthful conversation between Jagger and
Lennon to introduce The Dirty Mac finds them referring
to each other as "Winston" and "Michael" with Jagger
affecting a convincingly flat American accent and
Lennon referring to himself as "Winston Leg-Thigh."
The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus was directed
by pioneering music video director Michael
Lindsay-Hogg. Audio for the main program has been
remixed in 5.1 surround sound. Visual source for the
DVD is a new digital transfer from the original 16mm
negatives.
ABKCO Records will release The Rolling Stones Rock
and Roll Circus for the first time on DVD October
12th.
