[Slowhand] Vocals on One More Car One More Rider

Is there anyone else out there that is irritated by the slurring "s"
vocals on "One More Car One More Rider"?  My view is that in the modern
age of technology, they could have done something about it, or is it
impossible to cut this from vocals because they need the listener to
hear the extra dynamic range of other instrument and, specifically, the
guitar.

 

A technical viewpoint will be appreciated.
