This link takes you to a site that gives info about San Francisco venues and the albums recorded there. Over half a century of recordings are described. For example, if you check out the link for the Blackhawk, you find info about any released recordings made at that venue. If you click on a recording, for example, Jazz at the Blackhawk, Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond, 1956, you get info about that album, including a picture of the cover, where to buy it if it remains in print in the US and UK, songs, musicians who played on the album, various notes, and related releases. This info continues to be updated.

This page summarises releases that were recorded live at the major Bay Area venues. The list is not intended to be comprehensive, no doubt other venues could be included and more albums added for some of the included venues.

For venues with a large number of associated recordings a separate page has been created for the venue and a link provided. For those with only a few recordings the list is integrated into this page. The lists of albums within each venue section are ordered by recording date rather than release date.

Venues listed are Avalon Ballroom, Berkeley Community Theater, Bimbo's 365 Club, Blackhawk, Boardinghouse, Both/And, Bottom Of The Hill, California Hall, Carousel Ballroom, Chi Chi Club, Civic Auditorium, Coffee Gallery, Cow Palace, El Matador, Family Dog on The Great Highway, Fillmore Auditorium, Fillmore West/Carousel, Freight & Salvage, Grace Cathedral, Great American Music Hall, Greek Theater, Hotel Utah, hungry i, Jazz Workshop, Kabuki Theater, Keystone Berkeley, Keystone Korner, Kimball's, Kimball's East, Mabuhay Gardens, Marines Memorial Hall, The Masonic Auditorium, The Matrix, Old Waldorf, Orpheum Theater, Palace Of Fine Arts, Slims, The Stone, Sugar Hill, Sweetwater, The Tin Angel, Tsubo's Club, War Memorial Opera House, Warfield Theater, Winterland, Wolfgang's
