Mel, as you know, I am also a fan of MK and agree wholeheartedly with
your assessment. Like EC, there is a strong musical base from which he
draws, but there are other genres he pulls in and integrates with his
primary influences to develop a hybrid. In terms of their live playing,
I wish EC was more like MK from the perspective of their looseness. I
would say it has been a rare tour (NBTB's first leg comes to mind) where
EC actually seems to be enjoying himself on stage. Far too often he
seems uptight and ill at ease. This translates to an up-tightness which
detracts from the experience. While MK is every bit as professional as
EC, his playing is looser and trannslates to a more enjoyable listening
experience.

Given all that, I still prefer EC hands down. Something about his music
just speaks to me in a way that I could never do justice to, were I so
foolish as to try to describe it.
