[Slowhand] NYT review

The Times has checked in. . . a middling review, and unsigned on the Web site:

Same Old Song and Jams for Comfortable Clapton http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/30/arts/music/30clap.html

Here's the crux:

>>>Thursday’s show could have taken place anytime in the last 30 years, give or take some songs and band members. <<<

Uh, wrong wrong wrong. EC's vocals (which the review particularly criticizes)? There's persuasive evidence his singing has come a long way. Stale repertory? Granted, he's playing very little of recent release. But he has never before put together a set list so dependent on the eloquence of guitarist sidemen and his ability to respond. He's doing unprecedented ensemble work and interplay with a guitar focus. That statement from the Times just doesn't apply. Maybe the show's not bare-knuckles, but it still packs a punch. Unlike some reviews.
