Slowhanders,

I attended the Friday night show at Madison Square Garden. I thought Clapton's playing was special. He was "on it". At 61, he can still bring it like no other.

In all my years of seeing Clapton I have never liked him giving away even one solo. Derek Trucks is a different animal. It was like having Duane there. Layla never sounded more authentic. I hope Derek and Eric collaborate more in the future and he can grab half of Eric's solos. I thought I'd never say that about anyone. He really won me over. I loved that screen shot during the coda of Layla where they juxtaposed live images of Eric and Derek playing.

I hung out at Mustang Sally's for several hours before the show. I was with a group of friends. Did any other Slowhanders hang there before the Friday show? There were a lot of reserved tables. I thought they might have been for some of us Slowhanders in town for the show.

Cheers,
Jay
