[Slowhand] Labels - Bad

BTW - the help-link that was recommended was excellent, and I read a lot of it although not all. A 4-yr thread! If you want to read (and read and read) more on the topic of the evils of stick-on labels on your DVDs, read http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=138166&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

For me, I will avoid them from now on. The labels are removable. I was able to gently peel along an outer edge and carefully work toward the center resulting in no glue residue that remained on the disc. Voila! The disc played again with no problems. From what I read on the very long thread, some players were more likely to error on a labeled disc than others. A few people insisted that they labelled all their video discs and never experienced a problem, but the vast majority did experience skipping and seizing. The (video) disc manufacturers, also, recommended against using stick-on labels. That did it for me. Finally, heat and age are factors as well, and even if a cherished, labelled CDR plays w/o error today, the label adhesive can contribute to deterioration over time. I keep backup/source copies of my favorite boots (CDR) tucked away.
Thanks for the feedback.
Mel
