Re: John Mayall With Eric Clapton, "Blues Breakers: Deluxe Edition"Reference the upcoming John Mayall With Eric Clapton, "Blues Breakers: Deluxe Edition":

>> . The classic "Beano" album from 1966 featuring Eric Clapton on guitar has been Digitally Remastered and now features the original mono mix from 1966 and the stereo mix from 1969. <<

Disc 1 is probably the 1998 European remaster by Jon Astley (Deram [422 844 827-2], 1998), which includes both mono and stereo versions of the original album, 24 tracks in all. The 2001 American remaster (Deram [422 882 967-2], 2001), produced by Bill Levenson, is inferior, and contains 14 stereo-only tracks. Two tracks, "Lonely Years" and "Bernard Jenkins" were added to the American release, which had previously been remastered in Europe for another Mayall album, "The Best of John Mayall And The Bluesbreakers, 1964-69: As It All Began" (Deram [422 844 785-2], 1997)." These two tracks added something: a bunch of hiss. I don't understand why PolyGram's Bill Levenson remastered an album that had already, and just recently, been remastered.

One more bit of information: A Japanese release, also from 2001 (Decca [UICY-9169], 2001), should not be confused with the inferior American release of the same year. In fact, it is the same 24-track 1998 European release, but is packaged in mini-LP format, not a jewel box.

>> . Disc 2 contains 19 Bonus Tracks including BBC sessions, Immediate singles, a previously unreleased stereo mix of "On Top Of The World" and 6 songs recorded live at The Flamingo Club in March and April 1966. <<

The Flamingo Club tracks were recorded 28 November 1965, which was Jack Bruce's last performance with the Bluesbreakers. John Mayall, with whom I had a correspondence a few years back, confirmed that he had no idea when those tracks were recorded. Mayall wrote to me that I was probably correct, especially in light of the fact that Jack Bruce never rejoined the Bluesbreakers. BTW, on 29 November 1965, Jack Bruce was already performing with his next band, Manfred Mann.

>> . Contains 9 Previously Unreleased Tracks. <<

Most of the 9 tracks were on "Bluesbreaking!"

For a detailed comparison of previous "Beano" releases on CD, check the article at this web site: http://twtd.bluemountains.net.au/cream/Fresh/beanoreleases.html

I don't know if it's scheduled for release here in the US. It doesn't appear so, but it is available here as an import, via several web sites previouysly mentioned, such as Amazon.com and CDuniverse.com. However, this can change.
