In the liner notes for "Endless Wire," the Who's first new studio album in 24 years, Pete Townshend writes:

"I also had a precious ten minute phone call with Eric Clapton that he has probably forgotten, but his firm and unwavering advice hardened my resolve to make this record on my own, in my own way, to the bitter end - only delivering it to the Who's touring band when I was certain it was properly realised."
