Just got back from the annual 'No Stiletto Shoes Band' get together at the
Ex-Service Mans and Working Mans Club in Chiddingfold in deepest, darkest
Surrey. This is Gary Brooker and his Bands' regular local gig and normally
comprises of Gary on keys and vocals, Andy F-Low on guitar and vocals, Henry
Spinetti on drums, Dave Bronze on bass and Frank Mead on sax. They play
there every Xmas with various guests. EC turned up in 89 (the famous dancing
flower gig), 2004 and 2005. He turned up again last night and played a
diverse and somewhat tired 25 mins with the band (not surprising after the
amazing recent tour).
He started with a slow version of 'Roll with It' ('Let me be your man till
your big man come'),tasteful versions of 'Driftin' and Driftin' and
'Reconsider Baby' with EC on vocals, and finally 'Stand By Me' with him
singing the second verse.
A great time was had by all.
Talking of Andy F-L, if you look up BBC Radio 2 and go to the archive/play
again section and play last Thursdays R&B Show with Paul Jones, you'll hear
Andy play 3 live tracks from his forthcoming album (which he was signing and
selling copies of last night). And, surprisingly, they're quite good.
Finally, I took a few pictures of Chiddingfold and will attempt to put 1 or
2 up shortly.
All the Best for Xmas and the New Year
