[Slowhand] Incomplete clapton

I'm in two minds about this.
On the one hand this is a redundant compilation as far as most of us
reading this are concerned. I'm not going to bother buying it just
because the packaging is different this time around.
On the other hand, Reprise has not done the 'dirty' and added one or two
previously unreleased cuts to make the serious collector want to buy it
(like McCartney does with everything he puts out). So we don't have to
pay big bucks just to obtain a couple of tracks this time around.
Jagger's "Best Of" mentioned before is interesting because it does
contain an even mix for serious and casual fans. The "Crossroads" box
sets in 1988 and 1996 respectively held something worthwhile for
everyone. Liberal sprinklings of unreleased material fleshing out the
mainstream hits and favourites. Clever marketing really.
As Ken has pointed out, the ideal scenario would be if Warners could get
their act together and put out "Crossroads 3", covering the years from
1983 onwards to tie up all the loose ends for serious Clapton fans. But
on past form I would expect nothing. The sad marketing reality is that
we here are already converted and record companies take that for
granted, preferring instead to court casual listeners.
Hopefully they DO still release a live DVD from the 06/07 tour to cover
what has been missed on the "Crossroads Festival 07" DVD set.
That would go a long way to making amends.
Cheers,
Jon

>From a marketing stand point EC's business folks need to have their
heads examined. With all the
hype regarding the book, they should have developed a retrospective
similar to xroads box they
includes some new "gems" unreleased or live!! The casual fan would
still buy it as would we. If it
was sold closer to the holidays it would get HUGE sales in this type of
format. Maybe a tie-in to
4tarbucks too. This is just a resale of "Backtrackin" from what, the mid
80s?
