Bettye LaVette has released a fine cd of R&B versions of very well-known British rock songs including the Dominos' Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad.  Many songs are significantly re-arranged, some with alterations to lyrics, with the effect of putting the focus on the songs themselves and how great they are.  I saw Bettye perform a couple years ago and became an instant fan.  She opened that concert with Free's The Stealer.
