A resonator guitar was built by the Doyera brothers, who formed a company
called Dobro Manufacturing in 1928. They set, what became the standard and
for single resonator guitars that became to be known as Dobros.

They were in completion with the National String Instrument Corporation.
There was conflict in patent designs on the two guitars. Dobro changed
their design to what became known as what most people think of as a Dobro.

The resonator cone allowed the guitar to be louder, an asset in the pre
amplicaficaton days.

Gibson bought the Dobro trademark in 1994. The company announced that it
would defend its right to Dobro's exclusive use. Before 1994, many
different guitars were made and given the generic name dobro’s.

Now does any one want to aquire the Zipper Trademark and claim exclusive
use?
