701 Students Register for School Opening November 14

St. Bernard Parish Public School officials said that 701 students registered
by this Saturday for a temporary school opening on November 14 in Chalmette.

Superintendent of Schools Doris Voitier says she's pleased with the numbers
which represent 8% of the parish's 8800 student body in public schools.

"We're looking forward to the opening of the new school, which will be part
of the rebuilding of St. Bernard Parish," said Voitier.

A number of students will be driving in from other parishes even though
they're not curently living in St. Bernard Parish.

More than 450 indicated they'd be there for the first day of classes, while
others are expected as travel trailers become available for families in the
parish.

The new school will open in temporary classroom trailers in the parking lot
of the Chalmette High School football stadium, but Voitier said she plans to
have the CHS building cleaned and ready for classes by January.
