Doctor seeks license for powerful radio station in Chalmette.

Chalmette could become the home of a powerful AM commercial radio station,
which a Lafayette doctor who owns several other radio stations is trying to
put together.

"I'd like to give a radio voice to the parish,'' said Dr. Marcus Pittman, a
family practice physician who said he formerly practiced medicine in
Chalmette. "I think a radio station would be a boost to the citizens of the
community.''

Pittman said he has been working on the radio project for Chalmette for the
past two years, trying to get FCC approval and working on getting a tower
location. He indicated it could be six months to more than a year before the

station would be ready. The devastation created in St. Bernard by the
hurricane hasn't deterred him, Pittman said, claiming he believes there is
an advertising market in the area.

The call letters would be WOMN and would be 1100 AM, said Pittman, who said
he wasn't specific on what the format would be but said he would prefer talk

radio. It would be a 24-hour station, he said.

Pittman said he currently owns four stations in the Lafayette area and two
on the North Shore. Formats on those stations include a country music
station, a gospel music station and talk format, he said.

He said the station he envisions would be powerful enough to be heard in
other states.

Pittman also told Council members he would give parish government free air
time on his station for public information purposes.
