[StBernard] FEMA/NFIP flood maps

I've gotten a few voice mails from folks asking me about the website and
links I provided earlier as to where you can view the most current FEMA /
NFIP flood maps for any state, parish, county, city in the U.S.

Most questions seem to center around "how current are the flood maps?" Let
me restate what I said in that previous emails. The flood maps on FEMA's
website are the current flood maps and flood zones. Each map (or "panel" as
FEMA refers to it) has a section at the bottom right which tells you the
publication date of that particular "panel". Do not assume all panels
within a given parish have the same publication dates. Some sections within
parishes are more recent than other areas.

And, most importantly, the moment FEMA updates any flood maps (as they are
in the process of doing) they will instantly update their website for you to
view the most current map panel and new flood zone determinations. Now, when
will that be? Who knows?

Also, when you pull up all the map panels for a given parish, you will
notice the very bottom panel number includes the letter "IND".....this is
the "index" panel for that entire parish. So, I suggest you open that one
up first to see which numbered map panel you will need to home in on the
specific location within that parish. You then use the "zoom in" or "zoom
out" (magnifying glass icon) to find your street or location.
