After their initial commitment to make Louisiana's
recovery a priority, Congressional leaders wasted
no time getting down to business. Today I met with
House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, Senate Majority
Leader Harry Reid, and others in key positions to
drive the mechanics of meeting our needs.

This week I am focusing on ten steps Congress can
take immediately to speed up our recovery - from
removing the local match for federal aid, to fighting
crime in New Orleans and seeking federal solutions
to our insurance and public housing needs - and
legislation is already being drafted in response.

With our Congressional delegation helping to guide
these actions, I am confident this new Congress is
ready, willing, and able to break through the federal
barriers to our recovery so our people can rebuild.
- Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco
