Lake Charles Airport Receives Funding to Rebuild Terminal

After enduring substantial rain and wind damage during Hurricane Rita, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has allocated $2.7 million to rebuilding the Lake Charles Airport terminal. The funding will pay to demolish the damaged terminal and rebuild it to its pre-storm condition. The airport has been using a temporary building as a terminal since Rita. First Permanent Home Returns to New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward

The Times Picayune reported this week that Darryl and Elvina Sims' will be the first family to rebuild a permanent structure in New Orleans' devastated lower Ninth Ward since Hurricane Katrina. Their new modular home is expected to be ready within three weeks. After moving around Louisiana, the Sims' family is happy to finally be back in New Orleans, where they call home. Sorority Brings Thousands of Visitors to New Orleans for Convention

Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority's Biennial Leadership Conference was originally scheduled to take place on a cruise ship destined for Hawaii; instead 3,000 member of the 99 year-old sorority chose to hold their conference in New Orleans and express their support for the Gulf Coast Recovery. AKA hopes their visit to the city will encourage others to travel to New Orleans for conventions and other business purposes. New Ad Campaign Targeting Business Travelers

New Orleans' Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) has found a new and innovative way to appeal to business travelers. Last week the CVB launched a new airplane tray table advertising campaign that will run now through the end of September. Classic New Orleans cuisine, such as barbecued shrimp, fried soft-shell crab and strawberry shortcake, will be depicted on in-flight tray tables in an effort to entice travelers to come to Louisiana for all their business needs. Deadline to Apply for Road Home - July 31, 2007

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives, destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses. The Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) is the planning and coordinating body that was created in the aftermath of these storms by Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco to lead one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. The LRA is a 33-member body which is coordinating across jurisdictions, supporting community recovery and resurgence, ensuring integrity and effectiveness, and planning for the recovery and rebuilding of Louisiana.
