Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, New Orleans Mayor C. Ray Nagin, New Orleans Recovery Director Ed Blakely, Louisiana Recovery Authority Chairman Norman Francis and Executive Director Andy Kopplin concluded a series of successful meetings with key Congressional leaders and Bush administration officials in Washington, DC today where they urged federal officials to take swift action to address the Road Home funding shortfall.

Governor Blanco, Mayor Nagin, LRA Board Members travel to Washington, DC urging federal funding for the Road Home shortfall
Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco traveled to Washington, DC today for an intense visit on Capitol Hill, urging Members of Congress to provide the $3-$4 billion needed to fully fund the Road Home program. Accompanied by New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, city recovery director Ed Blakely, Louisiana Recovery Authority Chairman Dr. Norman C. Francis, LRA Board Member David Voelker and LRA Executive Director Andy Kopplin, the Governor will meet with House and Senate leadership over the next two days, including the House Democratic Cauc! us, the Congressional Black Caucus, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McCon nell and individual Members of Louisiana's Delegation, hoping to secure the funding necessary to help homeowners rebuild.

The Road Home's Final Stretch
As of mid-October, the Road Home program has provided critical funding to more than 60,000 homeowners across Louisiana's hurricane-hit parishes. With grants averaging $70,359, that's more than 60,000 families who can now return home to a life of stability and productivity, contributing to the resurgence of our communities. That effort should have put us at the halfway mark. That is, half of what FEMA initially estimated as the number of homeowners the Road Home would help.
