 	 Christmas is right around the corner, and if you need extra cash
this holiday season, I invite you to check to see if you have unclaimed
money listed with the Louisiana Department of the Treasury. 

The Treasury is holding more than $330 million in unclaimed property, which
includes money from uncashed payroll checks, old bank accounts, royalties,
utility deposits, interest payments, stock certificates and life insurance
proceeds.  Around one in six Louisiana residents has unclaimed money listed
with the state, and the average refund is $200 to $300. 

Our Unclaimed Property staff will be working overtime to process claims this
holiday season and will put a rush on anything filed over the next few
weeks.  We can't guarantee an exact date when your check will arrive in the
mail, but we pledge to do everything we can to produce a quick turnaround on
your unclaimed property claim.  

In order for us to return money quickly during the holidays, your unclaimed
property claim must be complete and accurate. Ownership of a claim must be
verified, so you will need your Social Security Card, driver's license or
other form of ID to claim your money.  The fastest and easiest way for us to
process a claim is if we have both a Social Security Number and an address,
but other documentation will work as well.

hotline, the quicker you will receive your money.
