The St. Bernard Parish Council is accepting applications from people
interested in filling the open at-large east post.

The seat came open recently when Councilman Tony "Ricky" Melerine announced
his resignation effective March 31.

The council will appoint an interim replacement to serve until a special
election takes place in the fall to fill the remainder of Melerine's term.
Councilman Frank Auderer, who holds the at-large west seat, will assume
Melerine's chairmanship of the council.

Whoever the council appoints to fill the open seat will not be eligible to
seek election to the permanent post in the October election.

Applicants must be 18 or older, have lived in Louisiana for the past two
years and have been domiciled in the at-large eastern district for at least
one year.

The district begins east of Gallo Drive in Chalmette and extends into
Meraux, Violet and the communities of lower St. Bernard Parish.

Melerine, 58, was elected to the at-large last October. In announcing his
resignation, he said he has been experiencing health problems that he must
deal with.

Residents interested in filling the interim post should send their resumes
to Roxanne Adams, clerk of the council, at 8201 W. Judge Perez Drive,
Chalmette, 70043 or email radams at sbpg.net. The deadline to apply is April 4.
