I saw a fema spokesperson on the news, and they said the policy on
generators was changed in 2006; and that only generators would only be
covered if you had a medical need to have one, ie, insulin.
Also called State Farm, my insurance company, and they said a house without
power, even with a well, so that your toilets couldn't flush was not
considered unihabitable, only inconventient. Now, Ike is knocking and the
door and who has money to evacuate again?

Does anyone know where, or if, they are giving out MREs?

Subject: [StBernard] Ike a possible threat to Louisiana
Message-ID: <152701c910ef$36d5cfe0$a4816fa0$@com>
New data from the National Hurricane Center shows Hurricane Ike, a
Category-4 storm with 135 mile-per-hour winds, on a path that will likely
place it in the mid-Gulf area next week.
Channel 4 Meteorologist Dawn Brown says that while Louisiana remains
within the 5-day "cone of error" for possible impact by the storm, Ike is
still a very long way off.
"It is a very far ways off in terms of hurricanes, and it still has to
interact with the Cuba land mass," Brown said.
"If Ike does make it into the Gulf by Monday, that's when we'll start
seeing that Ike is possibly a concern for us," she said.

Direct from FEMA's web site:
I was told that FEMA would reimburse me up to $800 for the purchase of
generator, is that true?
FEMA reviews requests for reimbursement of the cost of a generator on a
case-by-case basis. The maximum eligible reimbursable amount is based on a
determination of the median cost of a generator sufficient to power an
average-sized home. You will not be eligible for reimbursement if you
purchased the generator after your power was restored.
