Jefferson beats Moreno

Wednesday, November 05, 2008

By Frank Donze and Michelle Krupa

With his trial on federal corruption charges looming and questions swirling
about his effectiveness in Congress, U.S. Rep. William Jefferson cruised to
an easy victory Tuesday in the Democratic Party runoff for the 2nd
Congressional District.

The decisive win over Helena Moreno, a former TV news anchor and political
newcomer, ensures Jefferson a spot in the Dec. 6 general election. With
two-thirds of the district's voters registered as Democrats, Jefferson seems
the hands-down favorite to win a 10th term against four poorly financed
opponents with scant name recognition.

Flanked by his wife and daughters at an Uptown banquet hall, Jefferson, 61,
thanked the ministers, labor leaders and others who have backed him during
his nearly two decades in Congress. He also spoke directly to his critics
who have all but written his political obituary in light of his legal
problems. "

Jer Responds:

America (and Louisiana) has truly changed for the worse: When a culture is
excited to re-elect the dredge of society because he has a similar skin
color over a "robber and a thief" about to go to prison-Will-I-Am Jefferson.
If it were a conservative black or one who doesn't have a criminal record
(which is rare to find these days of youths who choose crime over honor).

Think of it: Jefferson being elected after exchanging a bank account with a
Kenmore Freezer!? Yes, liberals wanted change and will always choose any
kind of performance to honor and integrity. Screwed up by all that is sane
and holy.
