The problem, Laurie Excess? Isn't drinking to a stupor, drunken state of
confusion or whatever as exhibited on Ellen's trashy show a fine example.
However, because if we have to use Jesus, let's do it well as an example. If
Christ drank his symbolic wine to a state of inebriation, the Bible would
not have been written in the inspiration, perfect state of hope that it has
been for a couple thousand years.
If we judge, God wants us to do so fairly (as everyone in existence, even
Jesus has said such about what he deemed "unholy or ungodly". Take for
example, Mary Magdalene, whom he considers a harlot ("go and sin no more",
whom Jesus considers unholy for her actions and has her repent). He could
have easily apply the judgment to other perversions I've discussed (and He
may have), so his judgment was not only appropriate, it was "just" and
truthful and we all know that Jesus wanted everyone to "follow Him" or be
"Christ-like". Judging harshly is trivial as when he spoke, it was truthful
and when it's not a lie or denial, it's what God wishes. Just that we see it
for what it is and avoid the sins themselves in our everyday lives.
Mercy? Laurie, being merciful is forgiveness. We all should be merciful at
the onset of repenting sinners or evil-doers. Continuing to offend God is
only as good as those who believe God's intent. That we all honor his
commandments (not sometimes but all the time) and beg His forgiveness when
we fail as sinners.
Therefore, when we see evil we acknowledge that what we see is against the
Laws of God and not "whitewash" it to make us feel better or to feel like
we'll offend the liberals. When we are sinners, we feel as sense of
wrongdoing in the eyes of our Maker. He's giving us a conscience as a
miracle to his testament that we can repent and seek forgiveness and rejoin
his graces.
Trying to rewrite God's Word (as "loosing up" one's morals to reset the
standards of our everyday corrupted society) is damning. If we believe in
God's Word, believe that the Bible and God's history since Adam and Eve is
but a myth/fairy tale established to ease one's guilt, there is an inherent
danger that we as creations of God would not want to face when we are indeed
judged by Him in His own time.
God has given us our brains with opinions so that we might realize good from
evil. How we choose to accept one as fun or one that is in His pleasure
makes us perfect examples of the caretaker of his Love given us.
