2009 Redfish Cup July 31 to Aug. 2 in Chalmette before ESPN2 Cameras


Building on successful events in 2004, 2005 and 2008 the Redfish Cup
Tournament, filmed for ESPN 2, will return to Chalmette, LA . This year the
tournament and festival will be held at Gulf Outlet Marina off Paris Road on
Friday, July 31st from 2 p.m – 5 p.m.; Saturday, August 1st, 10 a.m. – 5
p.m. and – Sunday, August 2nd 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring our tournament back to Chalmette, famous for its
lucrative redfish marshes,” said Steve Levi, general manager of fishing
properties at Career Sports & Entertainment, the agency that owns the
Redfish Cup. “Not only is the fishing incredible here, but St. Bernard
Parish always gives us a warm welcome and great community support.”

St. Bernard Parish, the only stop in Louisiana, is one of the five venues
selected to host the tournament. Fifty-six teams of some of the best
professional anglers from all over the South including Florida, Georgia,
Texas and Louisiana will compete at the Chalmette event for $50,000 to the
1st place team. The event will feature a “Tailgate Party” festival each day
with local food and refreshments from Charlie’s Diner, Old Violet Gang,
Today’s Ketch, United Commercial Fisherman’s Association, Coffee Talk Café,
Plantation Bar & Grill, Latte Café, the St. Bernard Recreation Department,
Chamber of Commerce, Tourist Commission, 4-H and Breast Cancer Awareness.
There will also be live music on Saturday, Harvey Jesus and Sunday, Bobby
Cure and the Summer Time Blues. Children will be entertained at the
Children’s Activity Tent with face painting, fishing tank, fish arts &
crafts and the St. Bernard Sportsman League casting contest. There will also
be several sports related fine arts and craft booths and sports related
promotional items for sale from Academy Sports & Outdoors, the Redfish Cup
Committee who will be selling aprons and straw hats along with the Celebrate
St. Bernard Committee who have commemorative Fish Towels for purchase, Los
Islenos Society selling cookbooks, American Wetlands and several local
artist.

chance to be showcased to the world”, said Parish President, Craig Taffaro,

The Committee will bring back the White Boot Decorating Contest and Auction
and the Ducks Unlimited Pirogue Races which was a very popular event among
local civic organizations and the local businesses community who will
compete for the title.

Returning again this year is the popular “Splash Dog” competition where dogs
compete for the longest jump. No dogs allowed at the event unless registered
and competing in this competition. At 3 p.m. each day the main event is the
angler’s live weigh-in filmed for ESPN2. This is the third stop on the
Redfish Cup Tour.

The public is invited to come out and enjoy a great sport fishing event
featuring the best pro anglers in the South, great local food, music and be
a part of the national TV audience being filmed for ESPN2.

Free bus shuttles will be provided by the Gulf Coast Trolley and SBURT on
Saturday and Sunday from Nunez Community College to the Gulf Outlet Marina,
site of this year’s 2009 Redfish Cup.
