A St. Bernard Parish man who pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated rape
involving his former stepdaughter has been sentenced to 24 years in prison.

The 38-year-old man from Violet had been arrested in December 2008 in
connection with alleged sex crimes against three girls, including his
daughter and the former stepdaughter.
State District Judge Manny Fernandez handed down the sentence in state
District Court in Chalmette on Tuesday after the man pleaded to the
attempted rape charge.

The man's name is not being released to protect the identity of the victims.

The man was first booked Dec. 4, 2008, with aggravated incest involving his
juvenile daughter and indecent behavior with the juvenile sister of his
then-girlfriend, the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office said in a news
release.

After being released on bond, the man was later re-booked with making
harassing phone calls and three counts of aggravated rape of his former
stepdaughter, the news release said.

The investigations began when the teen-aged sister of his girlfriend told a
school counselor that he had touched her inappropriately, the sheriff's
office said.

The man's juvenile daughter, who knew the girlfriend's sister, told the girl
she believed her story because she, too, had been sexually abused by the
man.

The man was then booked in connection with those incidents.

After he was booked, his former stepdaughter told authorities that he had
raped her when she was a juvenile 10 years ago, the news release said.
