Sorry my friend! I knew you were over in cane country somewhere there!

When I did "teh google" I saw there were a bunch of those districts. It
seems they
are popular in the state for whatever reasons. I'm sure the idea of doing
the hospital
district was done for the right reason. Whether it stays that way...who
knows. We are
dealing with SBP here and all that that entrails!

I'm actually in Thibodaux, which is in Lafourche Parish, not
Terrebonne, but
it is pretty much the same way. From my understanding, Thibodaux
Regional is
a public-private hospital, half-owned by the government and
half-owned by
private interests (don't ask me who those private interests are).

TRMC languished for quite some time until they got an administrator
who
could make the necessary moves to improve the hospital and
surrounding area.
It also has the advantage of being a "regional" hospital, so that it
serves
a much larger area than the St. Bernard Hospital will.

It is possible that sales taxes may have been neutral or even
increased
because of the oil-spill, but most of what I'm hearing in Lafourche,
which
has Port Fourchon within its borders, is that sales taxes have
dropped.

All the clamor about higher-ed and how it will effect Nicholls
University,
may also be playing a large hard in it also.
