CHALMETTE, La. -- Fire crews raced to save a historic Chalmette restaurant
that caught fire Sunday.

Fire officials said they were called to the Rocky and Carlo's restaurant at
613 W. St. Bernard Hwy. about 9 a.m.

Firefighters said the restaurant is closed on Sundays and no injuries have
been reported.

St. Bernard Parish investigators said the fire began in the back kitchen.
The roof, kitchen and surround areas sustained significant damage.

Fire crews said the fire was contained and officials are still investigating
the cause.

Rocky and Carlo's is known for its "Italian-Cajun-Dixie" crossover fare and
is a lunchtime favorite in Chalmette. The restaurant dates to 1965, when
Rocky Tommaseo and Carlo Gioe opened the restaurant.
