We're hungry for fun at the St. Bernard Parish Library as we move into the
fourth week of summer reading. Tuesday's 'Growing Grub' story program set
for 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on June 25th and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26th
will find listeners enjoying healthy literary treats such as Rah, Rah,
Radishes by April Pulley Sayre and chowing down on folktales like 'The Big,
Big Turnip'.

The reading feast continues with special guest reader, Ms. Charlotte Morris.
"Just one more story, please!" was something Ms. Charlotte often heard from
her former students. And not one to disappoint them, she always had one
more story to share. And after teaching in the New Orleans area for more
than 35 years, Ms. Charlotte is still sharing her gift of storytelling and
educating. She will be on hand on Thursday, June 27 at 11:30 a.m. to
present multicultural stories with eager listeners. We will be traveling to
far off China when Ms. Charlotte retells the story of the Five Chinese
Brothers. Readers are encouraged to dig into summer reading with Ms.
Charlotte during this free fun-filled story adventure.

Keeping the pot bubbling at the library's Fridays with the Arts will be
local author Ms. Joanne Mehrtens as she brings to her original tale of
Jockamo Knows Gumbo. She will keep the summer fun at the library simmering
along as audience members help make poor Jockamo feel better. Chicken
noodle soup just won't do when everyone knows that Maw Maw's gumbo is the
best cure for Jockamo's flu. Come 'travel' across Louisiana as we gather
the ingredients for this tasty treat of a program. Ms. Mehrtens and Ms.
Roig are the authors of several other home-grown tales which will be
available for purchase following this free hour-long program. Funding for
this event has been made possible by a grant from the Louisiana Division of
the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation
and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as
administered by the St. Tammany Commission on Cultural Affairs.

Readers who have completed their activity sheets can bring them in beginning
on Monday, June 24th to receive their rewards and have their names entered
in the library's grand finale prize drawing. Winners must be present at the
finale to claim their prize. Summer reading sponsors include: Audubon
Nature Institute, Chalmette Movies, J & M Jewelers, Kiwanis Club of St.
Bernard-Arabi, Louisiana Children's Museum, McDonald's, National WWII
Museum, New Orleans Paddlewheels, Pets Plus, Raising Cane's, and Tony's
Po-Boy Restaurant.
